The Heart Behind Kingdom Brewing
As I was praying one morning about what to share with you, I felt the Holy Spirit whisper something that stopped me in my tracks: "Start with why."
Immediately, I saw Simon Sinek's face in my mind—you know, the brilliant speaker who gave that famous TED talk about how great leaders inspire action by starting with why they do what they do, not what they do or how they do it.
It struck me that while I've shared a lot about what we're doing at Kingdom Brewing—the books, the courses, the resources—and how we're doing it through real estate success funding ministry, I haven't fully shared the why behind it all. And that why goes back much further than you might imagine.
The 20-Year Percolation
I didn't write BLIND SPOT and our other Kingdom resources to sell books. Honestly, I didn't. These truths have been percolating and brewing (if you will) for over 20 years. I’ve worked on the foundational concepts behind this material for well over a decade before it ever took book form.
My why wasn't to build a platform or create a ministry empire. And frankly, the way many people have turned Christianity into an entertainment industry is source of great frustration for me. I get why Jesus fashioned some whips and drove the money changers out of the temple. Rather, my why was born from pain, refined through experience, and ultimately rooted in a desperate hunger to see God's original design for relationships restored.
You see, I spent the first part of my walk with the Lord believing and teaching traditional complementarian theology—the idea that while men and women are equal in value, they have different roles, with husbands as the leaders and wives as the followers. I even served in a large marriage ministry devoted to these teachings, pouring my heart into helping other couples while my own marriage was slowly dying. Sadly those theologies brought no lasting transformation for it failed to root out selfish, narcistic-type abuse.
When Theory Meets Reality
The breakthrough came when I realized something profound: God's Kingdom message is actually about intimacy—intimacy with Him and intimacy with each other. It's through our unity and through our union that we bring God's image to the earth.
We are created in His image and His likeness. He's a triune God existing in fellowship, in a relationship of love. That love—that perfect unity in diversity—is the power that actually fuels the kingdom on earth.
Think about it: a vine doesn't strive to produce grapes. A healthy tree doesn't struggle to bear fruit. When we're in right relationship with God and with each other, the Kingdom naturally comes. It's like leaven in dough—it naturally permeates and changes the molecular structure of everything it touches.
The Real Estate Revelation
When the Lord pushed me from working in traditional church ministries into the business world, I initially struggled with what felt like a separation between "sacred" and "secular." But He was teaching me something revolutionary: in His heart and mind, there is no separation. It's all sacred. He wants His Kingdom to permeate and transform all the kingdoms of this world.
Dewbrew Realty became my testing ground. Could Kingdom principles actually work in the competitive world of real estate? Could I serve people with integrity, put their needs above profit, and still build a successful business?
The answer was a resounding yes! But more than that, the business became a living demonstration that the Kingdom works. It put legs to the theology. It proved that bringing God into every aspect of your business—even when it's challenging—actually releases and unleashes the Kingdom in the marketplace and in people's individual lives.
The Partnership Principle
What I love about how God designed our ministry is that it mirrors the very Kingdom principles we teach. Gregory started a large food ministry over twenty years ago which grew into one of the largest private food banks in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. It fed hundreds of thousands of families directly and helped supply more than 100 other pantries throughout the Metroplex.
But food ministries don't generate large incomes. That's where the beautiful synergy comes in—much like Paul's tent-making ministry. The resources developed through Dewbrew Realty fund the advance of the kingdom in other areas. It's exactly what the Kingdom is meant to do: transform the marketplace to serve Kingdom purposes.
The Deeper Why
Here's the heart of it all: God's whole design for our planet, for our world, for our life experience here, is for us to have intimacy with Him and intimacy with each other. When we come into alignment with our true identity and our relationships—when we're connected like the vine and the branches—then the fruit naturally comes.
The Kingdom naturally manifests.
But here's what breaks my heart: the very institution that should be leading this charge—the Church—has often become the greatest hindrance to it. We've adopted the world's dominance-based hierarchies instead of Christ's revolutionary model of mutual submission and servant leadership. We adopted the worlds hunger for power.
We've been filtering Scripture through flawed perceptions, opting for the world's pyramid power structures rather than Jesus' demonstration of power through love. We essentially missed the whole point. We erased the original message of how to take dominion of the world through love—not force, through submission and strength.
The Vision Forward
This is why Kingdom Brewing exists. This is why we're creating resources, writing books, developing courses, and having conversations like this one. It's not about building an organization or making names for ourselves.
It's about seeing the Kingdom unleashed—first in individual hearts, then in families, then in communities, and ultimately transforming the world around us.
When we get the foundation right—when we understand that unity cannot happen without equality, and the Kingdom cannot be unleashed without unity—everything changes. When men and women begin operating in true partnership, reflecting the very nature of the Trinity, we see the kingdom released in ways that take your breath away.
Your Part in the Story
As Simon Sinek teaches, people don't buy what you do; they buy why you do it. If this why resonates with you—if you've sensed that there's more to God's design for relationships and His kingdom than what you've been taught—then you're part of this movement.
You're not here by accident. God is stirring hearts across the globe, awakening people to these truths. The Kingdom is like leaven, and it's working its way through the lump of this world, one heart, one relationship, one community at a time.
The resources we're creating—the books, the courses, the daily devotionals—these are simply tools. The real work happens when you take these Kingdom principles and live them out in your own relationships, your own workplace, your own sphere of influence.
That's where the Kingdom is truly unleashed.
An Invitation
So here's my invitation: Don't just consume our content. Catch the vision. Understand the why. Then go live it out in your own unique context.
Whether you're in real estate like I do, running a food ministry like Gregory did, or working in any other field, you have the opportunity to demonstrate that Kingdom principles work. You can prove that love truly does transform everything it touches.
You can be part of unleashing the Kingdom in your corner of the world.
What's your why? How is God calling you to demonstrate His kingdom in your relationships and your sphere of influence? I'd love to hear your story.
Blessings,
Susan 😊
