Belief — “This will help you in those difficult times: think of your belief as something much more precious than any possible evaluation of gold; remember that fire does not destroy the metal, it reveals it. Now even gold is an inferior comparison to faith. Gold as a currency has only temporal and unpredictable value; it fluctuates as the market changes. Now, in the same way that fire reveals gold, your faith in the midst of contradiction, makes Jesus Christ visible and gives much reason to testimony stories worth telling. This is what has permanent value, and exhibits the glory of Christ in you. So even though you have never seen Jesus in the flesh you love Him; even at times where He seems remote and invisible, your awareness of your union in Him continues to ignite belief. You are leaping with indescribable and exuberant joy as you hold Him in high esteem.” (1Peter 1:7-8, The  Mirror Bible)

How do we form our belief system? For most of us, it is taught to us by our parents. Where did they learn what they believe? We live in a world full of contradictions. So it’s hard to know what to believe or not.

Peter explains how a true belief system is forged — it’s by faith. And our faith is forged by the trails and tribulations of life.

Jesus entered into our realm to show us how to overcome these troubles and contradictions. Sadly, religious institutions — then and now — teach things contrary to what Jesus taught. Our faith in Christ helps us to recognize the false and to hold onto the truth.

We need Holy Spirit to help us know the difference! Hold onto your faith in Jesus, and share it with the joy He has provided for us!

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God, help us understand that our belief is something much more precious than any evaluation of gold, and that fire reveals rather than destroys our faith. Jesus, thank You for entering our realm to show us how to overcome the troubles and contradictions of life. Holy Spirit, help us dig out truth in our society and form a genuine belief system based on faith forged through life's trials. Help us hold onto our faith in Jesus and share it with the joy He has provided. In Jesus' name, Amen.
