Criticism — “Eyes that focus on what is beautiful bring joy to the heart, and hearing a good report refreshes and strengthens the inner being. Accepting constructive criticism opens your heart to the path of life, making you right at home among the wise. Refusing constructive criticism shows you have no interest in improving your life, for revelation-insight only comes as you accept correction and the wisdom that it brings. The source of revelation-knowledge is found as you fall down in surrender before the Lord. Don’t expect to see Shekinah glory until the Lord sees your sincere humility.” (Proverbs 15:30-33, The Passion Translation)

No one really enjoys criticism; it feels like we are being rejected or rebuked. Yet, if we stop to look at the source and the reasoning behind it, we can find a path that brings more peace and direction. By examining the criticism, we can correct our path. Some times it takes a little correction to find more glory. It can also get you out of a spiritual rut, making your bumpy road smooth and the crooked path straight. (Isaiah 40:3-4, Luke 3:5)

Don’t let your ego and pride keep you from accepting criticism that is constructive. Learn the difference between constructive criticism and criticism that is trying to derail your journey to God’s Shekinah glory in your life!

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God, we acknowledge that criticism is never easy to receive, but we ask for wisdom to discern between destructive criticism that seeks to harm and constructive correction that seeks to help. Give us humble hearts that can accept revelation-insight through correction rather than allowing pride and ego to keep us from growth. Help us to examine the source and reasoning behind criticism we receive, and show us how sometimes a little correction can lead to more of Your glory in our lives. Make our crooked paths straight and our bumpy roads smooth through the wisdom that comes from accepting godly correction. In Jesus' name, Amen.
