Friends — “There is no greater expression of love than the love that leads someone to lay down his life for his friends. Our friendship is endorsed in your continual engagement with the conclusion of My mission. I do not communicate with you on a slave - boss basis; slaves have no clue what their Master is about to do. I talk to you as My friends telling you everything that I have heard in My conversation and intimate association with My Father. This I explain to you in the clearest possible terms.” (John 15:13-15, The Mirror Bible)

Jesus’ requirements for friendship are love and death! Have you ever thought of friendship in that light?

I heard a quote by James Hillman where he said, “We need to befriend our dreams, visions and death.” Instead of fearing death, we should befriend and embrace it. Truly, death is just the begining of our eternal life!

We use the term friend like we use the word love! We say we love this or that — like tacos and movies. And we often call acquaintance are friends, yet Jesus said a friend is one who will lay down their life for another!  A true friend will be with you in the good times and the bad.

Let me ask you this: Who are your friends?

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God, help us understand the true meaning of friendship as demonstrated by Jesus! Open our eyes to see that true friendship requires love and the willingness to lay down our lives for others. Help us move beyond casual use of the word "friend" to embrace the depth of relationship You desire with us and through us. Give us friends who will stand with us in good times and bad, and make us that kind of friend to others. Help us befriend our dreams, visions, and even death, trusting that death is just the beginning of eternal life. Thank You for calling us friends, not slaves. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Declarations:

Living by Jesus' Friendship Standard:

  • I understand that true friendship requires love and sacrificial commitment

  • I am Jesus' friend, not His slave, and He shares His Father's heart with me

  • I engage continually with Jesus' mission to endorse our friendship

  • I am willing to lay down my life for true friends

  • I befriend my dreams, visions, and even death without fear

  • I distinguish between acquaintances and true friends

  • I am a friend who stands with others in good times and bad

  • I communicate with clarity and intimacy like Jesus does with me

Be a Blessing,

Sir Gregory
