Gracious — “But they, our ancestors, were arrogant; bullheaded, they wouldn’t obey your commands. They turned a deaf ear, they refused to remember the miracles you had done for them; They turned stubborn, got it into their heads to return to their Egyptian slavery. And you, a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, Incredibly patient, with tons of love—you didn’t dump them. Yes, even when they cast a sculpted calf and said, “This is your god Who brought you out of Egypt,” and continued from bad to worse, You in your amazing compassion didn’t walk off and leave them in the desert. The Pillar of Cloud didn’t leave them; daily it continued to show them their route; The Pillar of Fire did the same by night, showed them the right way to go. (Nehemiah 9:16-19, The Message Bible)
Daddy God didn’t stop there. He provided food, water, and their clothes didn’t wear out! He also allowed Jesus to make a way for all peoples to be forgiven, set free and so much more.
Religion leads us to believe that Daddy God was mean and cruel, while Jesus was kind. Most of our troubles in the world are because we are just like those who wandered in the desert! It’s not that Daddy God was cruel; He warned them of the consequences of their actions and stubbornness. Today people aren’t much different. They want to do things their way instead of Yahweh’s way.
We can follow the instructions and examples that Jesus gave us and walk in the gracious favor of Daddy God, Jesus and Holy Spirit!
Let’s Pray:
Daddy God, we come before You amazed by Your incredible patience with us. Even when we're stubborn, forgetful, and wanting to go our own way, You don't walk off and leave us in the desert. Your grace is bigger than our rebellion, Your love stronger than our stubbornness. Thank You for being gracious and compassionate, incredibly patient, with tons of love for us. Help us stop trying to do things our way and start walking in Your way - the way of grace, the way of Jesus. Show us how to follow Your instructions not out of fear, but out of love for You who never gave up on us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
I choose Yahweh's way over my way. I will not be stubborn or forgetful of God's goodness. His patience with me is incredible, His love for me is abundant, and His grace never quits. I will follow Jesus' instructions and walk in the gracious favor of Daddy God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit. I refuse to wander in circles when the path of grace is right in front of me.
