Offended

Offended — “And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” (Mathew 11:2-6, NKJV)
John was thrown into prison; his faith in Jesus must’ve become filled with doubt. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was really the coming One everyone had been waiting for. Jesus’ answer might seem a little harsh. He pretty much offended John, as well as all of the religious leaders of His time. They had a different expectation of who He should be!
Today, the religious still struggle with who Jesus is. Many want Him to be things He never claimed to be — like a supplier of all our wants and greeds. He is here to teach us what Kingdom really is, not what we want to be.
Don’t allow religion to convince you that Jesus is something He’s not. Be careful with your expectations. Religion will only cause you to be offended!
Let’s Pray:
Daddy God, help us not to be offended when Jesus doesn't fit our expectations or operate according to our religious assumptions. Open our hearts to receive Him as He truly is rather than as we think He should be. Holy Spirit, guard us against the religious spirit that creates false expectations and leads to offense when reality doesn't match our preconceptions. Help us embrace the authentic Jesus of Scripture rather than the counterfeit versions that religion promotes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today’s Decrees:
• I decree that I will not be offended when Jesus doesn't fit my expectations but will adjust my expectations to fit His truth!
• I decree that I embrace the authentic Jesus revealed in Scripture, not religious counterfeits!
• I decree that I will not allow false expectations to create offense in my heart toward God!
• I decree that I understand Jesus came to establish His Kingdom, not fulfill my earthly desires!
• I decree that I help others develop accurate expectations about Jesus to avoid offense!
