Slow — “My dearest brothers and sisters, take this to heart: Be quick to listen, but slow to speak. And be slow to become angry, for human anger is never a legitimate tool to promote God’s righteous purpose.” (James 1:19-20, The Passion Translation)

James encourages us to be slow to speak and slow to become angry. In our world, there are so many things we could be angry about. Paul encourages us to not let our anger to cause us to sin! “But don’t let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin! Don’t let anger control you or be fuel for revenge, not for even a day.” (Ephesians 4:26, TPT)

Some have said that Daddy God is slow to answer our prayers, but that’s because they we don’t understand His timing. The only time He is slow is when He is slow to become angry. “The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. (Psalms 145:8, NKJV).

Many times we try and justify our anger by saying that Jesus got angry in the temple. He also took His time to fashion a whip that day, so it wasn’t a spur of the moment thing. He didn’t let it become sinful rage!

Let’s not allow anger to control us. Rather, let’s be slow to in our response to things that could cause us to sin! And, let’s become like a sloth when it comes to being angry — slow and steady in our action.

Love always wins!

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God! Help us take to heart James' wisdom about being quick to listen but slow to speak and slow to become angry. In a world full of things that could trigger our anger, help us be like You - slow to anger and great in mercy. Holy Spirit, when we feel the passion of our emotions rising, help us not let it lead us to sin. Give us the wisdom to pause, breathe, and respond with love instead of reacting with anger. We want to be like a sloth when it comes to anger - slow and steady in our actions, always choosing love over revenge. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today’s Declaration:

I choose to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry. I will not let the passion of my emotions lead me to sin or let anger control me, even for a day. Like God, I will be slow to anger and great in mercy. When anger rises, I will move at sloth speed - slow and steady, always choosing love over revenge. Love always wins, and I choose to win with love.

Be a Blessing,

Sir Gregory
