Systems — “According to the prophetic pattern, Jesus, as the final sin sacrifice, was slain outside the city walls. There are two opposing systems; you cannot associate with Christ for your convenience while still hanging on to your Jewish sentiment. If you’re going to take your stand for Jesus, go all the way. Break your ties with the old shadow-system. Go outside the city-system. Be prepared to share His shame when your fellow Jews mock your commitment to Jesus. We are not finding our identity or security in the walled city of popular legalistic religious opinion. Our interest is captured by a different kind of city, much closer to us than the visible one.” (Hebrews 13;12-14, (The Mirror Bible)
Today we can say the city—system is our religious institutions. Just like when Jesus walked the earth, He operated outside those systems, outside the religious institutions of His day.
People thought they were safe inside the systems they had setup. Many today feel the same way. Yet our world is such mess that it seems too big to correct. But Jesus gave His life to make a way for a new system, a system that will transform the world. We should follow Him into freedom from the religious systems of the world.
Jesus is outside of religion. Where are you?
Today’s Decrees:
I decree that the walls of religious comfort no longer define me.
I decree that I am free from every system that substitutes performance for presence.
I decree that I follow the Lamb wherever He goes — outside the city, outside the approval, outside the familiar — because that is where life is found.
I decree, the city I am seeking is the one He is building, and it has no walls that keep people out!
I decree, Jesus is outside of religion. And I am going where He is!
Let’s Pray:
Daddy God, give us the courage today to step outside the comfortable walls we've built around You. Where religion has replaced relationship, where systems have substituted Your Spirit — open our eyes. Lead us outside the city. We want to follow Jesus all the way, not just to the gate. Amen.
