Vain

Vain — “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain” (Exodus 20:7, KJV)
“Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain” (Deuteronomy 5:11, KJV)
I often heard this command used in connection with blaspheming of Holy Spirit. So what does that look like? A simple explanation would be seeing Daddy God at work and calling it evil. This is what the Pharisees were doing in Mathew 12:31, Mark 3:28, and Luke 12:10.
So “take the name of the Lord thy God in vain” means what? The word ‘take’ there in the Hebrew means to lift up, to carry. We carry His presence. In vain means without purpose or not achieving its intended result.
So what are you doing with His name that you carry?
Do you wear the name Christian but not live like Jesus? We have too many people in our religious institutions who are church-goers, but are they God-followers? Many on Sunday do a duty but forget about Him the rest of the week—some that very same day. Even leaders wear the badge but the fruit of their lives doesn’t line up with ‘The Way’ Jesus taught!
Jesus gave us His name. He created ‘The Way’ for us to be like Him so the world could find it too. Let’s walk in it!
Today’s Decrees:
🔥 I decree that I carry Daddy God's name with honor, never in vain!
🔥 I decree that the fruit of my life lines up with the Way Jesus taught!
🔥 I decree that I see Daddy God at work and call it good, because it is good!
🔥 I decree that my life shows the world the Way back to Daddy God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit!
Let’s Pray:
Daddy God, thank You for the privilege of carrying Your name. Forgive me for the times I've worn it without living it. Help me recognize Your work and honor it, and teach me to walk in the Way Jesus created so that my life shows who You are. Let the fruit of my life line up with Your name every day of the week. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Be a Blessing,
Sir Gregory
