Word — “When the Message we preached came to you, it wasn’t just words. Something happened in you. Holy Spirit put steel in your convictions. You paid careful attention to the way we lived among you, and determined to live that way yourselves. In imitating us, you imitated the Master. Although great trouble accompanied the Word, you were able to take great joy from Holy Spirit!—taking the trouble with the joy, the joy with the trouble.” (1 Thessalians 1:5-6,  MSG)

What is the “Word?” Some say it’s the Bible, others say it’s a “message or sermon.” But John tells us this: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1, NKJV)

So the Word is Jesus! And He has been since the very beginning. We also know that once Jesus came, He stirred up the religious institutions. So much so that they ended up crucifying Him. Why was this? They had misinterpreted who He was and how He would come. (They had the scrolls and writings that later became what we call the Old Testament.) So they didn’t recognize the Messiah when was standing right in front of them.

Today people are still being persecuted for believing in Him. Paul tells us that there will be trouble for our beliefs, but we should take joy in these troubles because that’s what Jesus did. He knew that someday, because of His sacrifice, we would become His. All our troubles will never compare to the trouble He had because of us!

Tell me, who is the Word to you?

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God, help us understand that the Word isn't just written text but the living person of Jesus Christ. Open our hearts to receive not just information about You but transformation through You. Holy Spirit, put steel in our convictions as we encounter the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us. Give us joy even in the midst of troubles that come from following Jesus, knowing that our troubles will never compare to what He endured for us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today’s Decrees:

• I decree that I encounter the living Word, Jesus Christ, every time I open Scripture!

• I decree that Holy Spirit puts steel in my convictions as I meet Jesus in His Word!

• I decree that I take joy in troubles because I'm sharing in Christ's sufferings!

• I decree that the Word transforms me from the inside out, not just informs my mind!

• I decree that I imitate Christ as I follow those who follow Him faithfully!

Be a Blessing,

Sir Gregory
