Entitlement — “You must prove your repentance by a changed life. And don’t presume you can get away with merely saying to yourselves, ‘But we’re Abraham’s descendants!’ For I tell you, God can awaken these stones to become sons of Abraham!” (Matthew 3:8-9, The Passion Translation)
We live in a culture where many feel entitled. The Bible is full of stories where people felt this way too. The Romans felt they were entitled to Israel’s land because they were militarily more powerful. The Pharisees and the Sadducee’s felt they were better than everyone because of their religious training.
Many today feel, because of the grace that Jesus brought into the world, that they can do whatever they want. However, Paul reminds us in Romans, “So what do we do, then? Do we persist in sin so that God’s kindness and grace will increase? What a terrible thought! We have died to sin once and for all, as a dead man passes away from this life. So how could we live under sin’s rule a moment longer?” (Romans 6:1-2, TPT)
Paul taught a lot about grace. But he was clear, grace doesn’t mean we are entitled to Christ benefits. We can’t act like spoiled children demanding blessings from the Father. Being humble is a deterrent to being entitled.
Let’s not become proud and entitled just because of we are now children of God. Jesus came and humbled Himself as our example!
Let’s Pray:
Daddy God! Help us understand that Your amazing grace doesn't give us entitlement to act however we want. Break the spirit of entitlement in our hearts and replace it with humility like Jesus showed us. We don't want to be like the Romans who felt entitled because of their power, or the Pharisees who felt entitled because of their religious training. Help us prove our repentance by changed lives, not just claim our position as Your children. We have died to sin once and for all - help us live like it! We choose humility over entitlement and gratitude over demanding attitudes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today’s Declarations:
I reject the spirit of entitlement and choose humble gratitude instead. I will prove my repentance through a changed life, not just religious words or family heritage. Grace is a gift I don't deserve, not a right I can demand. I have died to sin once and for all, so I refuse to live under sin's rule any longer. I follow Jesus' example of humility and serve others rather than demanding they serve me.
I decree that humility rules in my heart where entitlement once tried to reign!
I decree that I am grateful for God's grace, not demanding of more blessings!
I decree that my changed life proves my repentance better than my words ever could!
I decree that I am dead to sin and alive to righteousness, living like the new creation I am!
I decree that I follow Jesus' example of humility and service in every relationship!
Be a Blessing,
Sir Gregory
