Friendship — “Pursue peace with all people; true friendship can only be enjoyed in an environment of total forgiveness and innocence. This makes God visible in your life. You must understand that this is a grace-race and not a law-race. While we’re in compete- and compare-mode we create the opportunity for resentment to flourish and to poison many in the process.” (Hebrew’s 12:14-15, The Mirror Bible)

Without true relationships and friendships, resentment and unforgiveness find lots of places to grow.

We live in a world that has become lacking in true relationships. We might have a large group in our social media following, but are these real friends? The intention of social media was to bring us closer together. And to some degree, it does allow us to keep up with those that live far away.

But what about our neighbors — those that live close by? Polls today will tell you that many people don’t even know their neighbors’ names. Churches are a place where lasting relationships should be built but rarely do. They have become a place where people can hide in plain sight. Becoming a recluse in a crowded world isn’t the answer.

Jesus came and showed us the way to live as friends.Find someone to have a visit with and watch how much better your day is!

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God, help us pursue peace with all people and understand that true friendship can only be enjoyed in an environment of total forgiveness and innocence. Make Yourself visible in our lives through authentic relationships. Help us understand that this is a grace-race, not a law-race, so we don't create opportunities for resentment to flourish. Jesus, show us the way to live as friends rather than becoming recluses in a crowded world. Holy Spirit, guide us to find someone to visit with and experience the joy of genuine connection. In Jesus' name, Amen.

• I declare that I pursue peace with all people and create environments for true friendship to flourish!

• I declare that I participate in a grace-race, not a law-race, extending forgiveness and avoiding competition!

• I declare that I make God visible through authentic relationships built on grace and love!

• I declare that I will not become a recluse but will follow Jesus' example of living as a friend!

• I declare that I intentionally build meaningful connections and watch my days become better through friendship!
