Rend — “So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He isgracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.” (Joel 2:13, NKJV)

“Tearing your clothes in sorrow is not enough— tear open your hearts! ”Come back to Yahweh your God, for He is gracious to welcome you home and compassionate to embrace you. Yahweh is slow to anger and so rich in extravagant love for you. He is always ready to forgive and cancel judgment.” (Joel 2:13, TPT)

To rend (tear) clothing was either a sign of repentance or when they thought people were speaking blasphemy. Repentance is more than an outward sign of acknowledging we have been wrong. It’s also an inward acknowledging that our ways have been wrong. Humans have never liked to be wrong, and we hate when our actions are called “sin!”

Riots, and even wars, have started because someone was living a righteous life and society didn’t like it. Paul shared his testimony in Ephesus (Acts 19), many repented and removed their worship items. That disrupted their economy and folks got mad! Because of this, they created riots!

Our testimony of what Daddy God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit have done in our lives will either bring people to repentance or cause them to reject us! When we rend our hearts because of ungodliness, our outward actions will show our love for Them and for the people!

Let’s Pray:

Daddy God, we come before You acknowledging that true repentance goes far deeper than outward religious expressions. Help us to rend our hearts, not just our garments, and to return to You with genuine inner transformation. Thank You for being gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and rich in extravagant love. We know that You are always ready to forgive and cancel judgment when we come to You with truly repentant hearts. Transform us from the inside out so that our testimony draws others to repentance rather than rejection. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  Today’s declarations:

I declare that I will rend my heart, not just my garments, in true repentance before God.

I declare that my repentance goes deeper than acknowledging mistakes to recognizing that my ways have been wrong.

I declare that I will return to God knowing He is gracious, merciful, and ready to forgive.

I declare that when God transforms my heart, my outward actions will show love for Him and others.

I declare that my testimony will either draw people to repentance or reveal their hearts through their response.

Be a Blessing,

Sir Gregory
