Tongue — “For every wild animal on earth including birds, creeping reptiles, and creatures of the sea and land have all been overpowered and tamed by humans, but the tongue is not able to be tamed. It’s a fickle, unrestrained evil that spews out words full of toxic poison! We use our tongue to praise God our Father and then turn around and curse a person who was made in His very image! Out of the same mouth we pour out words of praise one minute and curses the next. My brothers and sisters, this should never be! (James 3:7-10,TPT)
James tells us that the tongue is hard to tame. It’s one of our smallest members, yet it’s most powerful. And we know from scripture that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21, NKJV)
Proverbs speaks a lot about the words that roll off our tongue and how unruly they can be. “Guard your words and you’ll guard your life, but if you don’t control your tongue, it will ruin everything.” (Proverbs 3:3, TPT)
Yes, we are told that the tongue is hard to tame, but it’s not impossible! Let’s put a guard on our tongues so we may enjoy the life Daddy God, Jesus and Holy Spirit have given us! You know that express “bite your tongue”? Well maybe we should give it a try if it gets out of line! ;-)
Let’s Pray:
Daddy God, we come before You acknowledging that our tongues have been difficult to tame and that we've spoken words we wish we could take back. Help us to understand the power of our words and the impact they have on ourselves and others. Give us wisdom to guard our speech and grace to speak life rather than death. Transform our hearts so that what overflows from our mouths brings blessing rather than cursing. Holy Spirit, help us put a guard on our tongues so we may enjoy the life You've given us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today’s Declaration’s:
I declare that with God's help, I can learn to tame my tongue and speak life consistently.
I declare that I will guard my words to guard my life, knowing that my speech affects my destiny.
I declare that the same mouth that praises God will also bless people made in His image.
I declare that I choose to speak life, encouragement, and blessing rather than death and destruction.
I declare that I will put a guard on my tongue and sometimes bite it when necessary to prevent harm.
Be a Blessing,
Sir Gregory
