Crown

Crown — “Isn’t it obvious that all runners on the racetracks keep on running to win, but only one receives the victor’s prize? Yet each one of you must run the race to be victorious. A true athlete will be disciplined in every respect, practicing constant self-control in order to win a laurel wreath that quickly withers. But we run our race to win a victor’s crown that will last forever.” (1 Corinthians 9:24-25, The Passion Translation)

We are all in a race for a prize or a crown. In our society, going to the gym has become normal. You can drive through any town or city and see a gym almost on every corner. This in itself isn’t a bad thing! But for everything we do, we are trading something for our time and energy. Are we also putting in effort in family relationships and our spiritual bodies?

Jesus tells us in Mark “For what use is it to gain all the wealth and power of this world, with everything it could offer you, at the cost of your own life? And what could be more valuable to you than your own soul?” (Mark 8:36-37, TPT)

Let’s not trade our spiritual life for a crown that will perish. Instead, let’s balance the life we have been given. Let’s not just train the physical; let’s train all aspects of who we are! Paul explains this well to the Thessalonians: “Now, may the God of peace and harmony set you apart, making you completely holy. And may your entire being—spirit, soul, and body—be kept completely flawless in the appearing of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One.”  (1 Thessalonians 5:24, TPT)

Which treadmill of life are you on?

Let’s Pray:

Good morning, Daddy God! Help us run our race with wisdom and balance today. We want to be disciplined athletes in every area of our lives - spirit, soul, and body. Show us what we might be trading away in our pursuit of temporary crowns, and help us focus our energy on the victor's crown that lasts forever. Holy Spirit, reveal to us what treadmill of life we're on and whether it's leading us toward You or away from You. We don't want to gain the whole world but lose our souls. Set us apart and make us completely holy - our entire being kept flawless for Your appearing. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today’s Declaration:

I choose to run for the crown that lasts forever, not the laurel wreath that quickly withers. I will be disciplined in every respect - training my spirit, soul, and body for God's glory. I refuse to trade my spiritual life for temporary achievements that won't matter in eternity. God is trustworthy and will complete His work in my entire being. I choose balanced living that honors every part of who He created me to be.

Be a Blessing,

Sir Gregory
