Offense — “Later Peter approached Jesus and said, “How many times do I have to forgive my fellow believer who keeps offending me? Seven times?” Jesus answered, “Not seven times, Peter, but seventy times seven times!” (Matthew 18:21-22, The Passion Translation)
Probably the hardest ones to forgive are those who are closest to us. Peter asked how many times do I forgive a brother or fellow believer. That statement itself seems wrong. In today’s culture, we just cut off contact and friendship instead of forgiving. We say we forgive, but do we really?
It seems easier to forgive those we consider non-believers than those we consider believers. Jesus gave Peter a number that seems impossible! The only way it’s possible is with the help from Holy Spirit, Daddy God and Jesus. They give us grace upon grace and forgive us not just once but every time! So let’s ask Them to grant us grace to forgive those who have offended us!
Remember Jesus also told us, “And when you pray, make sure you forgive the faults of others so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you withhold forgiveness from others, your Father withholds forgiveness from you.” (Matthew 6:14-15, TPT)
Who are you holding forgiveness from? The first person who comes to mind — chose to forgive them right now!
Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, as we come before You this morning, we acknowledge our deep need for Your grace. You have forgiven us countless times, showering us with mercy we don't deserve. Today, we ask for the supernatural strength to extend that same forgiveness to others, especially those closest to us who have wounded us most deeply. Holy Spirit, soften our hearts and remove the barriers we've built. Help us to release the offenses we've been carrying and to walk in the freedom that forgiveness brings. In Jesus' precious name, Amen.
Added Declaration:
Today, I choose to be a conduit of God's grace. I release those who have offended me and trust Holy Spirit to heal my heart. I will not allow unforgiveness to rob me of the freedom Christ died to give me. I am forgiven, therefore I forgive.
Be a Blessing,
Sir Gregory
